Manchester United’s prospects of landing PSG winger Neymar have received a shot in the arm in recent hours.

The 31-year-old Brazil international is a potential superstar target for the Red Devils in the summer transfer market, with the former Barcelona player seen as a marquee addition for any successful bidder in the takeover battle at Old Trafford.

The Sun believes that Sheikh Jassim is targeting Neymar, who is a player that PSG would be willing to offload in the summer as they embark on a cost-cutting exercise that will also see them part with Lionel Messi, whose time in Paris is coming to an ugly end.

“From now on, the plan for PSG is simple - young, French and team players,” a source told the newspaper.

“It’s obvious to anyone who that applies to and who it doesn’t.”

Among those who aren’t seen to apply is Neymar, whose time at PSG has been dogged by controversy over his lifestyle and attitude. Although he has managed 118 goals and 77 assists in 173 appearances for the Parc des Princes side, he has often found himself injured at key times of the season and has been out since February after ankle surgery.

While parting with the big-earning player makes sense from a PSG perspective, there are doubts over whether he fits the blueprint of Ten Hag’s Man Utd.

Fans target Neymar in angry protests

PSG supporters are certainly not enamoured with Neymar, with a sizeable group of fans gathering outside of his house on Tuesday and chanting “f*** off”.

Although this only adds fuel to the fire of the club’s desire to part with him, PSG have come out with a stern statement against actions that invade the privacy of their players.

“Paris Saint-Germain most strongly condemns the intolerable and insulting actions of a small group of individuals that took place on Wednesday,” a club statement read.

“Whatever the differences of opinion, nothing justifies such actions.

“The club gives its full support to its players, its staff and all those targeted by such shameful behaviour.”

PSG’s ultras, which come together under the banner CUP, have been protesting against the leadership of the club at all levels in recent days following a 3-1 loss to Lorient in Ligue 1 at the weekend.
