Chelsea star N'Golo Kante has refused to commit himself to the Blues amid rumours that he could make the switch to Arsenal this summer.

The midfielder has recently become the subject of links to the Gunners as his contract will be up this summer and North London counterpart Granit Xhaka could be on his way back to Germany, potentially leaving a gaping hole in Mikel Arteta's centre of the park.

A move would certainly make sense from Arsenal's perspective as well as from Kante's if the veteran is still keen on challenging for trophies, something that doesn't seem possible at Chelsea at this moment in time.

There is, however, the impending appointment of Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge, which could foil Arsenal's transfer plans. Chelsea have been negotiating with Kante over a contract extension and it is believed that the hire of the Argentine coach could give the Blues a boost in the talks.

It is believed that Kante and Pochettino are very fond of each other, sharing something of a bromance, and the latter wanted to bring the Frenchman to Paris Saint-Germain when he was in charge there. Now, Kante has gone public about the latest developments at Chelsea and his contract situation.

What did Kante say?

Speaking to Sky Sports, Kante said of the imminent Pochettino appointment: "For sure, it's an exciting project for the club."

"Unfortunately," the 32-year-old added, "this season hasn't been to Chelsea's standards. But everyone wants to go in this way, the way of success and winning titles. I hope this club will again fight in this direction."

Regarding his expiring contract, Kante refused to make any definitive statements, which may give Gunners fans hope that he will join former Chelsea man Jorginho in North London next season. "Let's see where I will be," Kante said, "but I hope that this is a change for the club, that is most important."
