Chelsea should accept a bid from Bayern Munich for Mason Mount if they receive an offer of €80 million.

That is according to former Chelsea full back Glen Johnson, who believes that it could be win-win for all three parties to do such a deal.

Mount has been heavily linked with a summer transfer to Bayern Munich, where he would reunite with his former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.

It is believed that Chelsea would ask for a huge fee for Mount, with some reports they could demand as much as €80m.

What did Johnson say bout Mount?

“I actually think he would be brilliant at Bayern and you could understand why Tuchel wants him because he got him playing his best football for sure,” Johnson said.

“Everything that went well at Chelsea whilst Tuchel was there, Mason Mount was right at the heart of it. He hasn’t had that same impact since, so you could understand why they would want to do business together again and link back up.

“I think he is more than good enough to play at that level, I really like him. At the moment, Chelsea should take £70m because he hasn’t been the same Mason Mount and Chelsea may need to take the money after all their signings.

“It also depends on who the next manager is because he may be able to bounce back if there is a top manager like Tuchel, who wants to bring in other top players to play alongside him. On the other hand, you could totally understand why interest from a club like Bayern and a manager like Tuchel would make his head turn - that was when he was playing his best.”

It now seems increasingly likely that Mount will leave Chelsea at the end of the season after contract renewal talks were ended.

Mount’s contract at Chelsea expires at the end of next season and talks over a renewal made no headway for over a year before they were finally stopped.

Both Liverpool and Man Utd are interested in signing Mount this summer, with the former widely regarded as strong favourites for his signature.

Chelsea will sell Mount this summer if a new contract isn’t signed, to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2024.
