PSG sporting director Luis Campos has placed the blame squarely on Chelsea for the failed deadline day transfer of Hakim Ziyech.

Ziyech had been expected to complete a Deadline Day move to PSG on loan but, as the Parisians raced to beat the clock, there was a problem with the paperwork.

Chelsea reportedly submitted the incorrect documents to Les Parisiens on three occasions, ending any prospect of the transfer being completed.

It was a humiliating sequence of actions from the Blues and resulted in PSG signing no one in January, having also failed to bring in Milan Skriniar from Inter.

What did Campos say about failed Ziyech transfer?

“We did everything for Ziyech to join PSG, also on the player side. But as with all transfers, you need all three parties to work well,” Campos told Telefoot.

“It worked very well for PSG, Ziyech… but unfortunately, it didn’t work well for the third part (Chelsea).”

Ziyech thus remained at Chelsea for the rest of the season.

The 29-year-old has never really looked like a Chelsea-level player since his big-money move from Ajax in the summer of 2020.

He has struggled for consistent gametime and failed to convince manager Graham Potter of his credentials in attack.

Ziyech had been a revelation during Ajax’s famous run to the Champions League semi-finals in 2019, playing a key role under Erik ten Hag in putting champions Real Madrid and Italian giants Juventus to the sword.

This season he has fallen well down the pecking order under new manager Potter, starting just seven games in all competitions.

He has not scored and made just one assist this term.

Ziyech did impress for Morocco at the 2022 World Cup, though, as his country went all the way to the semi-finals.
