The Blues created the better chances in the Champions League round-of-16 first leg but failed to take any of them.

However, Dortmund youngster Karim Adeyemi took full advantage of Chelsea mistakenly leaving Fernandez as the only defender back from an attacking corner.

The ball was cleared to Adeyemi, after the Blues almost scored, who countered with blistering pace.

The German went past Enzo like he wasn't there and rounded goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga before calmly slotting the ball into an empty net.

TNT Sports Brasil were one of many publications that criticised Fernandez's inability to deal with Adeyemi's pace.

''CALL THE UBER FI ! Enzo Fernandez is looking for Adeyemi so far,'' they captioned an Instagram post.

Chelsea's vice captain Thiago Silva commented on the post: ''Lack of f**king respect huh!!! Be more serious with your work.''

Fernandez has already made three appearances for Chelsea but he is yet to play in a full-strength side.

The Blues have dealt with injuries over the course of the past two seasons and this is a still a problem for the west London club.

Should all of the missing players return to the first-team squad, Enzo could line up alongside N'Golo Kante is the centre of midfield.

While Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk would present an exciting attacking midfield for the World Cup winner to supply.
