Martin Odegaard: Ferdinand makes bold claim about possible Barcelona transfer

Former Manchester United defender and club legend Rio Ferdinand believes Martin Odegaard could have his head turned if Barcelona come in for him in the future.

The Norwegian international has been a revelation for Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side this season, contributing eight goals and six assists in 18 Premier League games as the Gunners top the standings in England's top flight.

The 24-year-old only joined Arsenal on a permanent deal from Real Madrid in 2021, but Ferdinand believes he would be tempted if their El Clasico rivals submitted an offer.

On his 'Vibe with Five' YouTube channel, Ferdinand admitted: "I’d say right now, he’s probably my Player of the Year. If Haaland eases up with the goals, and Arsenal win the league, and Odegaard continues, he’s my player of the year.

“The only place he goes is somewhere like Barca. If they come in, it’s a different conversation.”

Odegaard to leave Arsenal?

It seems scarcely believable that Odegaard could leave Arsenal, even if a club like Barcelona decide to bid for him. He is currently Arsenal's captain and is leading them towards their first Premier League crown since 2004, under a manager who clearly believes wholeheartedly in his ability.

However, Barcelona have shown they're able to lure talents away from Arsenal in the past, such as Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song, and Odegaard could be next if the Blaugrana listen to Man Utd legend Ferdinand.

But, his deal at the Emirates Stadium isn't due to expire until 2025, meaning his future remains at Arsenal for at least the time being.

Odegaard remains the youngest ever player to feature for Real Madrid, the youngest to ever play in the Norwegian top flight division, and the youngest Norwegian to ever earn a cap for the senior national team at 15 years and 253 days.
