Liverpool may consider bringing in a midfielder in January after their disappointing start to the season they are reportedly looking to beat a host of top European sides to the signing of one of their biggest targets.

The Reds sit in 10th place in the Premier League after winning just two of their opening eight games and they have struggled with injuries to midfielders such as Naby Keita and Curtis Jones.

With deadline day signing Arthur Melo also set to be out of action until next year, a report by Spanish outlet Gol Digital claims that Liverpool are among the sides tracking Valencia youngster Yunus Musah.

The 19-year-old came through the academy at Arsenal before joining the Spanish side in 2019 where he has established himself as a regular in the middle of the park under boss Gennaro Gattuso.

Musah is set to be included the United States squad for the upcoming World Cup and it is believed Liverpool may look towards a swift transfer as the teenager has a release clause in his contract of around €30 million.

The American still has four years left on his contract but Valencia are looking to tie him down to a new deal in order to raise the release clause and ward off interest from Liverpool as well as Arsenal and Juventus.

Liverpool look to right Arsenal wrong

Musah was born in New York but moved to London aged nine where he joined Arsenal’s academy and the former Gunners prospect told the ‘Men in Blazers’ podcast that he felt Valencia represented a clear path to first-team football.

Musah said: “After all these years I had at Arsenal, I loved the club so much, like, that was my place. And then, yeah, it came to a point where I was like, 'OK, is Arsenal going to push me to get to where I want when I want or not?' So it didn't look like it.

“I was going to probably start off with the (under) 18s and then the (under) 23s, and then from there we'll see. But Valencia, on the other hand, they offered me to be able to go there and play in their B team, which is in the third division in Spain, which was big, and train with the first team while I was doing that.

“That would be pushing me to get to the first team. So (that) was like a big prospect to be in their first team at Valencia. That was what made my decision clear to go to Valencia. Because my dream was to play professional football, play first-team football."
