Chelsea are looking at options as there are doubts over Mason Mount’s future at the club, with the player set to enter the final year of his contract next season.

While there is an expectation that he will extend his stay at Chelsea, there are still doubts and Chelsea are building a contingency plan just in case he doesn’t agree to a new deal.

As a result, the Blues are analyzing options for the position and have targeted two players from Europe who they feel would be the ideal fits as Mount’s replacement in the future.

One of them is Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini and the other is Villarreal’s emerging star Yeremy Pino, who has attracted interest from various English sides over the last few months.

Chelsea eyeing two names in case Mount leaves

Pellegrini is 26 and captain of Italian outfit Roma, where he lifted the Europa Conference League last season – the club’s first-ever European trophy.

He’s also a full Italy international and plays in an advanced midfield position, making him the ideal replacement for Mount, should he leave Chelsea anytime in the near future.

He would, however, be quite costly as he has a long-term deal at Roma, meaning Chelsea would have to pay a big sum to secure his signature if they wish to.

Yeremy is younger, being just 19, and has shone in La Liga in recent years, even starting in the Europa League final of 2021, where his Villarreal side were victorious over Manchester United.

He has a contract at the club until 2027 and is seen as the club’s brightest prospect, with Villarreal resisting interest for him over the summer from the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.

Chelsea will have to fork out a big sum for him as well, but feel he would be worth it as his talent and rapid rise is well-appreciated by those at the club.

The Blues will still try to convince Mount to stay and extend his deal at the club, but have a plan in place in case they can’t do so anyways.
