Chelsea had a mega first transfer window under their new ownership, led by Todd Boehly, having signed nine players and been the biggest spenders of the summer across any club in Europe.

The Blues spent big on the likes of Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and others as Boehly led the club’s transfer charge in his first window.

Many were critical of his decisions, with some questioning if there was a long-term strategy behind it, and the decision to sack Thomas Tuchel soon after the window made the decisions even more bizarre.

Now, according to reports, it seems as though they are close to establishing a new strategy with regards to their squad and future transfers that will come.

It’s been revealed that Chelsea’s new strategy to sign players is to focus on those under the age of 25, according to a new report from The Athletic.

This may come as a surprise given that some of the players they signed are over that age category, including the likes of Sterling, Koulibaly and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

They also handed out a contract extension to Cesar Azpilicueta and are in talks to extend N’Golo Kante’s deal – both of whom are over 30 years of age.

However, for the future, they are only looking to sign those with a long-term value and under the age of 25, which would explain their chase of RB Leipzig duo Christopher Nkunku and Josko Gvardiol.

It was revealed earlier in the week that Chelsea have an agreement over personal terms for Nkunku, with a deal set to be completed in time for the start of the next season.

They were also willing to spend big on Gvardiol in the final days of the window, and will come back for him in the transfer window next year in the bid to get him from the German club.

Other targets they have include Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, Ajax’s Edson Alvarez and West Ham United’s Declan Rice, showing that they are serious about their new philosophy.
