Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has kicked five players out of the club’s first-team dressing room.

According to The Sun, Man Utd’s dressing room at Carrington can only accommodate 24 senior players.

But Man Utd’s first-team squad is massively bloated following the summer transfer window and there isn’t enough room for every senior player.

As a result, five players from the senior squad have been sent into the changing room for Man Utd’s Under-23 team.

What players have been kicked out?

The biggest named player to be culled is Phil Jones. The defender has barely featured in recent years due to persistent injuries. United had wanted to sell him this summer but were unable to.

The other four players to be sent away from the first-team dressing area are Brandon Williams, Axel Tuanzebe, Tegen Mendi and Shola Shoretire.

Williams and Tuanzebe are understood to not have futures at the club following their loan spells earlier this year at Norwich and Napoli, respectively.

Manchester United were one of the biggest spenders in all of Europe this past summer, splashing out more than €250 million on a host of players.

The most expensive signing was Ajax winger Antony, who arrived for €100m. Antony’s former Ajax teammate Lisandro Martinez also joined from the Eredivisie, as did Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.

The biggest-name arrival was Casemiro, who joined from European champions Real Madrid for over €70m.

Christian Eriksen also moved to Old Trafford on a free transfer.

Man Utd did release a number of first team squad members on a free transfer, such as Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani and Juan Mata.

However, their squad remains very large and has resulted in the dressing room cull.
