Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri has been advised to leave Manchester United as soon as possible in order to get game time ahead of the World Cup.

The Uruguayan has been at Manchester United since 2020 but has rarely featured in the first-team, having loan spells away at Spanish La Liga side Alaves.

This season, he stayed at Manchester United after a decent pre-season display, but is yet to feature in the first-team – something he hasn’t ever done for the Red Devils.

He has played in a few friendlies, but beyond that, a senior appearance seems hard to come by, and as a result, he has been advised to leave the club by Gus Poyet.

Poyet asks Pellestri to move clubs

Poyet suggests he needs to be fitter ahead of the World Cup, where Pellestri has a chance of making the squad that will travel to Qatar later in the year for football’s premier tournament.

Pellistri has already featured for Uruguay six times in his career, having made his debut earlier this year, and was widely praised for his trickery and flair he provided on the wings.

Poyet thinks he can show that at the World Cup too, and has asked Pellistri to request a move as Erik ten Hag won’t give him much time on the pitch between now and November

“Pellistri will struggle to get game time. It would be good for him to go somewhere and play, because the World Cup is around the corner,” Poyet said.

“He is very important for the Uruguay team because the coach [Diego Alonso] has lots of faith in his ability, he’s a proper winger.”

The transfer window is shut in most European nations but he can still get a move to a Serbian or a Greek club, and the option would be worth exploring ahead of the World Cup.

Poyet then cited the example of Uruguay hero Luis Suarez, who made a return home to Nacional in order to keep himself fit and in tune ahead of the World Cup.

“He needs to find a place to play. Look at Luis Suarez who is playing at Nacional week in week out, training with the first team and getting game time three months before the World Cup. Pellistri should do something similar.”
