Arsenal’s 3-0 victory away to Brentford on Sunday confirmed their position at the top of the Premier League table – and it also cemented the fact that Mikel Arteta’s side won the 2022 summer transfer window.

Chelsea might have spent a world-record sum on players, but it was the Emirates side who spent their money more wisely.

At a venue where Arteta’s men famously came unstuck last season, they emerged easy winners against an opponent that had thumped Manchester United 4-0 at home previously this term and who had only lost one Premier League encounter to date.

And it was Arsenal’s new boys who inspired the victory.

William Saliba may not be a new signing per say, but he has only made a first-team spot his own at Arsenal this season. Indeed, the former Marseille loanee only highlighted his quality by heading his side in front with a nice near-post flick from a corner.

Oh Jesus

That was followed by Gabriel Jesus’ inevitable contribution. While eyebrows might have been raised by the fee that Arsenal paid for the Brazil international in the summer, it is already evident that they have got value for money in the striker. Granit Xhaka, who had another fine game, was the architect of the goal as he crossed brilliantly for the former Manchester City striker to loop a header into the goal.

The match was killed off early in the second half by Fabio Vieira’s first goal for the club. It was a strike to remember for the former Porto player, who took his time from the edge of the box to deliver a thumping shot in off the post.

A three-goal victory at a difficult venue represents and impressive result – but with the three scorers all new faces in Arteta’s Arsenal side, it also represents a team whose transfer business this summer was again exceptional.
