The football transfer list is a mythical creation, which has captured the imagination of fans all around the world.

There is, of course, no definitive list of players who are up for sale at any given time. Yet the idea that a player is ‘transfer listed’ is an easy way for everyone to understand that they are on the market and could be sold to a bidder should the right offer come in.
