‘Liverpool don’t panic buy’, while Man Utd and Chelsea rush for late signings

CBS transfer expert Ben Jacobs explains on FootballTransfers the difference in which Liverpool operate in the transfer market, compared to Manchester United and Chelsea.
With just three days left in the transfer window, all three clubs are still looking for new signings.

Liverpool are on the lookout for a midfielder following a glut of injuries early in the 2022-23 season.
Manchester United and Chelsea, meanwhile, are expected to splash the cash heavily in the final hours, with both of their teams and squads still very much incomplete.
But Jacobs explains that, while Liverpool will only spend if they are able to get one of their primary targets at the right price, Man Utd and Chelsea are far less strict in how they do their deals and are happy to jump around from target to target at more inflated prices.
'Liverpool don't panic buy'
“Liverpool’s recruitment department work discreetly, they work secretively and they work sensibly,” Jacobs explained.
“There’s a range of different KPIs and they don’t rush, they don’t panic and as they’re happy with what they have got – as Jurgen Klopp said – they will only move for a player if he is on their relatively small shortlist and they can get that name at the right price.
“If they can’t they’ll move on and they’ll still be glad of their business this summer. This is what differentiates Liverpool from Manchester United and Chelsea. Man Utd have found late budget and are fighting to add numbers, while Chelsea have had so many outgoings and need to bring people in.
“At Liverpool they are calm, they’re considered. They know because of the injuries that if they can possibly find the right midfielder they will move.
“But if nothing materialises I don’t expect them to panic buy later in the window because that’s just not what Liverpool do.”
