Chelsea have been linked with a move for Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the player’s relationship with Thomas Tuchel may be useful here.

The Blues are eager to add to their attacking line and Barcelona are open to selling for the right fee, as they look to help their difficult financial situation.

Chelsea have sold Timo Werner and loaned Romelu Lukaku back to Inter, meaning they’re depleted in attack as the end of the transfer window approaches.

Barcelona have also been in business with Chelsea quite often this summer, with regards to deals involving Marcos Alonso, and potentially Frenkie de Jong later on in the window.

Tuchel praises Aubameyang impact

Tuchel, though, has been talking up the possibility of Aubameyang making the move to Stamford Bridge, sharing that he shares a positive connection with the Gambian forward

Aubameyang played under Tuchel when the pair were at Borussia Dortmund between 2015 and 2017 and he had an astonishing record with him.

In the 2015-16 season, Aubameyang had an incredible record of 39 goals and 12 assists in 49 appearances and in the following season, he scored 40 goals in 46 appearances, proving to be a fruitful partnership.

In total, there were 79 goals in 95 appearances, and Tuchel is fond of the forward, admitting it was a pleasure to work with him in a recent press conference: “Aubameyang? At Dortmund it was a pleasure to coach him.

“We had a very close relationship and we always kept in touch when he played at Arsenal. They still remain your players in a way, and Auba is one of those guys."

Barcelona reportedly want a fee of around €25 million for the 34-year-old, and Chelsea aren’t too keen on paying that, with Manchester United also reportedly eyeing the situation.

A move to Chelsea would be a controversial one from Aubameyang, as he previously played for London rivals Arsenal between 2018 and 2022, where he had a fine run.

Time is running out in the window if Chelsea are to sign a forward, and they may have to spend a lot more if they want a younger, long-term forward.
