A dazzling Saturday for Bournemouth was completed with the Cherries' latest summer signing, as Marcos Senesi sealed a move to the Premier League from Feyenoord.

Senesi, 25, came to the fore during his side's march to the inaugural UEFA Conference League final against Roma in 2021-22, where they narrowly lost out to Jose Mourinho's charges.

He has been a consistent presence in the Dutch side's backline since joining from San Lorenzo in 2019 and has also muscled his way into the Argentina national team, making his debut earlier this year in a friendly against Estonia.

The defender is also qualified to play for Italy, and the Azzurri made a strong play for his allegiance before his Albiceleste debut; while Roma and Inter had also been linked to his services this summer.

While the club is yet to officially confirm the deal, according to Italian football journalist Nico Schira Senesi will sign a five-year contract at Bournemouth, while Feyenoord will net €15 million from the sale of their defensive star.

Cherries celebrate opening day triumph

It could prove a crucial signing for the Cherries, who enjoyed a perfect start to their first year back in the Premier League on Saturday following promotion in 2022-23.

Scott Parker's charges welcomed Aston Villa to the Vitality Stadium in what appeared to be a stiff early challenge for the new boys.

But Bournemouth were in control throughout, taking the lead when Jefferson Lerma netted past Senesi's compatriot Emiliano Martinez after just two minutes and sealing victory through Kieffer Moore deep into the second half.

Next Saturday the Cherries face the daunting challenge of a visit to Manchester City in their second league fixture, and Senesi's defensive poise could be very useful indeed if the Argentine is cleared for selection in time to meet the Premier League champions, in what would be a baptism of fire in the English top flight.
