Barcelona twitter has gone into a frenzy over the name of a potential new signing after journalist Gerard Romero reported that the Blaugrana are currently in a meeting with a prominent player’s agent.

“If I say the name of the player's agent meeting with FC Barcelona, a tsunami will occur,” Romero stated this evening.

Premier League 2022/23 summer transfers: All the done deals

Romero was quoted as saying this just minutes before Brighton put out a statement clarifying that they had not agreed a deal with any club for left-back Marc Cucurella.

It had been widely reported earlier in the evening that Chelsea had agreed a €60 million deal for Cucurella and that he would undergo a medical on Thursday.

But Brighton denied the news.

“Contrary to inaccurate reports from numerous media outlets this evening, no agreement has been reached with any club to sell Marc Cucurella,” the statement read.

Which player agent is meeting Barcelona?

Barcelona fans – and many Chelsea ones also – immediately put two and two together and came to the conclusion that it was Cucurella’s agent who was in a meeting with the Blaugrana.

It has further been reported elsewhere that Cucurella's agent is actually in Barcelona currently, though it could just be a coincidence.

Barca have already hijacked two Chelsea transfers this summer in the form of Raphinha and Jules Kounde. They surely couldn’t be about to hijack a third transfer?

However, others speculated that it may be Bernardo Silva’s agent who is in talks with Barcelona.

The Manchester City midfielder would like to join Barca and it is public knowledge by now that Barcelona will try to find a way to sign him this summer.

Another huge name that has been suggested is Lionel Messi. President Joan Laporta has confirmed that Barcelona would like to re-sign Messi when his contract expires in 2023.

Could Messi’s agent, Jorge Messi, be negotiating a return already?
