The coach signed a three-year deal back in April, and is set to begin work in June, having won the league with Ajax for a third time in four seasons.

He recognises that there is a big rebuilding job at Manchester United, with the club having endured their worst Premier League season, points-wise, winning just 58 points all campaign.

What has Ten Hag said in his first interview?

Ten Hag, though, is keeping his feet on the ground and wants to stabilize his team before setting ambitions for what he wants to achieve.

“Before a season you have to prepare, I’m coming over to meet people, to roll out the strategy and to prepare pre-season. We need to prepare staff and the squad.”

“First we have to accept the current situation but also know that one year ago this team was 2nd in the Premier League. It’s a process that will take time but I’m convinced we’ll get to a point where we have success.”

The Dutchman confirmed that the club will start pre-season at the end of June, and that there will be additions in the transfer window to improve the team ahead of the start of the new campaign.

“We start pre-season on 27 June and of course in certain positions we want to renew the squad, but as I said one year ago this team was second in the league.”

Additionally, Ten Hag said he wants to implement the ways Manchester United have been known for over the years and play dominant football.

“We don’t have to go over my football, it’s about Manchester United football and identity. We have to bring structures into the way we play so we can play attacking football.”

“I have high demands on my players and I expect them to fight and give 100%. They have to cooperate, be unified and form a team.”

There have been several rumours of rifts between the team in recent times, and Ten Hag wishes to iron them out next season to have a united group of players.
