Real Madrid have rejected the opportunity to sign Paul Pogba this summer, with the Frenchman set to leave Manchester United following the expiry of his contract.

Pogba has been linked to several clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, but it seems certain that Real Madrid won’t be making a move for the World Cup winner.

His agent, Mino Raiola, has been in constant contact with Real Madrid, but Pogba’s name has rarely been brought up has the Spanish club have interest in his other clients.

Why are Real Madrid refusing Paul Pogba?

It is believed that Madrid are putting everything into signing their other major targets – namely, Pogba’s international team-mate, Kylian Mbappe, who is finally expected to move to the Spanish capital.

Other targets are also lined up, with Real Madrid keen to reinforce midfield and defensive options, and names elsewhere could be more cost-effective, despite Pogba arriving with no transfer fee.

Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni is high up on the shortlist, and it’s possible that Real Madrid make a move for the player.

Additionally, should they refuse to spend on midfielders this summer, they already have decent options in midfield as Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde are there to support the more experienced trio of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro.

Even though he would arrive on a free transfer, signing Pogba would mean there would likely be a massive signing-on fee, high wages, as well as a significant chunk ending up in the pocket of Raiola.

Another of Raiola’s clients, Erling Haaland, is facing a similar problem with clubs refusing to pay up the agent fees, leaving a clear path for Manchester City to go on and sign the Norwegian forward from Borussia Dortmund.

Furthermore, Pogba’s form this season has been poor, with the midfielder often struggling with injury or failing to break into Ralf Rangnick’s plans at Manchester United.

Rangnick admitted the other day that the Frenchman may have already played his final game for the club, having limped off with injury after 10 minutes in their match against Liverpool at Anfield last week.

The former Juventus player joined Manchester United in 2016, and only has two trophies to show for it – the League Cup and Europa League, both won in 2017.

His time since has been turbulent, with rumours often lingering about his departure, and it looks like his time at Old Trafford will finally come to an end soon.
