Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Gabriel Jesus after the forward was told by Manchester City that he can leave in the summer, according to reports.

Jesus has been told by City boss Pep Guardiola that he is not part of his plans next season ahead of ahead of the arrivals of Julian Alvarez and potentially Erling Haaland.

With Jesus entering the final year of his contract, City are looking to cash in and have invited offers for the Brazil international, alerting many clubs, including Arsenal.

No fee has been agreed between the two sides and it is believed the Gunners are willing to wait for Jesus to run his contract down if a deal cannot be struck.

Should Arsenal turn to Jesus?

Jesus was expected to step into a consistent starting role following the departure of Sergio Aguero at the end of last season but Guardiola has not been convinced by his form.

The 25-year-old has scored 53 Premier League goals since joining City at the start of 2017 for £27 million. Only three of those have come this season, however. Indeed, the ex-Palmeiras man has been limited to just 16 starts in the league, although he has managed to get seven assists in that time.

Jesus has also failed to score for the Brazil national team since netting in the 2019 Copa America final, a run of 15 games without a goal.

In spite of his barren run in front of goal, Jesus has many admirers and it is believed Arsenal executive Edu Gaspar has approached his agent offering a salary of £6m per year.

Having won nine trophies with Man City, Arsenal may feel a player of the 25-year-old's pedigree is worth taking a risk on. The Premier League champion's reported £30m asking price could be a stumbling block.

But with manager Mikel Arteta desperate for quality up front and City being willing negotiators, a deal to bring Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal could eventually be agreed.
