We may still be some way off the summer transfer window but it seems as though one of the biggest transfer stories in the Premier League is already building up steam.

It now seems clear that Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans will not sign a new contract with the Foxes and as a result the club may look to cash in on him at the end of this season.

The Belgium international currently has a deal until 2023, but with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool all showing some interest in signing him, Leicester would rather cut their losses this year than lose him for 12 months later.

But among the front runners - Man Utd and Chelsea - the Belgium international may be better suited taking up any offers from the latter, over the former.

’A move to Man Utd would be a big risk’

That’s certainly what former Manchester United midfielder Kleberson suggested when he was asked about Tielemans’ next move.

“Youri Tielemans is not at a big club. Leicester City don’t have the pulling power that some of the other Premier League teams possess,” the Brazilian explained, speaking to Paddy Power.

“I could see Tielemans going to Chelsea because their style would suit him. When you watch Chelsea play, they are more comfortable with the ball.

“A move to Manchester United would be a really big risk for him, and Liverpool already have players who can control games and dictate the play.”

Would Chelsea suit Tielemans better?

While it seems obvious that Man Utd are in need of another central midfielder, Kleberson certainly makes a good point.

Not only are Chelsea in a far better position to push for serious silverware - having just won the Champions League less than 12 months ago - but they could also be in a position to offer the Belgium international a direct route to the starting XI.

Indeed, Thomas Tuchel’s midfield is well stacked at the moment, but the club may have to gear up for losing both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho in the summer, due to both players having contracts that expire in 2023.

If there is some hesitation over either player signing a contract extension, Chelsea may look to sell them on in favour of bringing in the younger Tielemans on a long-term contract. Which, naturally, would offer the midfielder in an enviable position in Tuchel’s squad.
