Dybala will not sign for Liverpool – here’s why

Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala has suddenly found himself linked with a transfer to Liverpool in the summer.
This is symbolic of what has been a tumultuous few weeks in the career of the Argentine, who no doubt felt that his long-term future lay at Juve until a dramatic U-turn from the Italian side.
Dybala, after all, had apparently agreed terms on a new contract with the Turin giants, including a tidy pay rise. Juventus, though, reconsidered their stance on the matter, retracting their contract offer. Instead of offering the attacker a pay rise, reports suggest that his wages would be frozen or perhaps even cut.

With Dybala set to be a free agent in the summer, his future is up in the air. Fresh talks are expected in February.
Liverpool are linked with a move for the attacker by TMW, while the Daily Star reports that a switch to Anfield is one that the player would like.
Why Dybala is unsuited to Liverpool
Dybala, though, appears a player wholly unsuitable for Jurgen Klopp’s style. Indeed, he appears the antithesis of what the German has installed at Anfield.
The Argentine does not press, is slow to cover ground, is not strong on the counterattack and is not suited to playing in a 4-3-3 formation, the system that Klopp has made excel. The only circumstances in which a move would make sense is if the German was considering a switch to a 4-2-3-1 framework, although Dybala’s lack of defensive coverage still means that it would be a huge shock.
In terms of his style, Dybala’s technical attributes would make him more suitable to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, although there is no indication that there is any interest from the reigning Premier League champions.
Dybala, then, should only be considered a long shot to sign for Liverpool – and even if the Juventus man was to go to Anfield, the odds on him being a success would be even longer.
