There have been many reports in recent weeks about supposed unhappiness in the Manchester United camp and about players pushing for an Old Trafford exit. But, after Marcus Rashford and Fred recently spoke out to quash rumours about their respective futures, now Bruno Fernandes has done the same on social media.

The Portuguese player was linked with a transfer to Barcelona by Sport TV Portugal. They claimed that Manchester United had offered the Catalan club the chance to sign the 27-year-old, but Fernandes then responded to the post himself to deny this.

“I thought we’d only just started the new year and yet it seems we’re already at April 1, or is this just another case of bad journalism?” he replied to Sport TV Portugal’s Instagram post, along with a laughing emoji. Although the network deleted their post, Fernandes has more than made his point.

Bruno Fernandes’ tough 2021/22

As has been the case with many Manchester United players so far this campaign, Bruno Fernandes has been enduring a tough time and most of his numbers are down on last year.

The main stat is his goals scored as he has just five so far, when he scored 28 last year. That means he is producing 0.24 goals per 90 minutes this year compared to 0.55 in 2020/21, which is mostly down to the fact that he is either no longer taking penalties or has missed when he did step up to the spot.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival has impacted Fernandes more than most and, even though they are international teammates, they haven’t quite gelled at Old Trafford. But, it appears that Fernandes is determined to stay at the club and to rediscover his best form, having laughed off the suggestion from Sport TV Portugal or a January switch to Barcelona.
