West Ham manager David Moyes has hinted that star player Declan Rice will commit to the club for the long term.

Rice has been heavily linked with a big-money transfer to Manchester United and Chelsea over the last year.

Chelsea, in particular, were confirmed admirers of the central midfielders while Frank Lampard was manager of the club.

However, Lampard’s sacking last month appears to have ended Chelsea’s interest in Rice and Moyes has now suggested that the 22-year-old is looking to build his future with the Hammers.

“I can tell, looking at him, [that] Declan is pushing me to improve the team,’ Moyes told The Daily Mail.

“I’m looking at him and saying; ‘You’re an England international, possibly a future England captain, and you want me to get you good players. Good players you can play with and who want to get better.’

“So every day I look at him I think: ‘My goodness, he’s making me find better players, in turn, to make West Ham better.’

“And I think Declan will always be here as long as he thinks I’m going to try and get him good players and players he thinks will help the team get better.”

Rice was involved in West Ham’s 2-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday, a result that saw them move into fourth place in the Premier League table.
