Now that Ralf Rangnick is finally in the door at Old Trafford, the 63-year-old veteran manager can begin the job of rebuilding Manchester United.

Rangnick signed a six-month deal to become interim manager following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Following that, he has agreed to take on a two-year consultancy role where he will have input into the next permanent manager and player recruitment.

Werner on Rangnick's radar

And one player that has reportedly interested Rangnick is his former striker Timo Werner at Chelsea.

Rangnick signed Werner from Stuttgart for RB Leipzig in 2016 and it was there the player would star, convincing Chelsea to part with £47 million for him in July 2020.

But it hasn't worked out for Werner at Chelsea with him scoring just 15 times in 64 appearances.

And now SportBild reports that Rangnick wants to end Werner's disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge and bring him to Old Trafford.

Rangnick has been credited with turning Werner into a top-class forward who netted 95 times in 159 outings with the Bundesliga outfit.

And the prospect of working with his old head coach might be tempting for the German 25-year-old.

Tuchel stands in the way of any transfer

But the main hurdle for any transfer deal between United and Werner will come in the form of Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.

Rangnick and Tuchel know each other well but Tuchel would be reluctant to sell him to a domestic rival.

Werner might not be scoring goals in the Premier League for Chelsea, but he is still a player Tuchel uses a lot. He has played 12 times for the Blues this season, including eight league appearances despite missing three matches through injury.

A player that might be moving to United in January is Amadou Haidara. The Leipzig player is valued at €40m and is known as a wide playmaker.
