Manchester United are one of the most recognisable clubs in world football, although they have suffered a massive drop-off in form since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

The Red Devils have not won the Premier League title since their legendary manager stepped down in 2013, while their Carabao Cup triumph in 2023 was the first trophy won by Man Utd since 2017.

However, they remain the English club with the largest fanbase across the world.

Despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a minority stake at Old Trafford, Man Utd are still owned by the Glazers, who have been in charge since May 2005.

Man Utd’s first major signing following the Glazers’ arrival was Edwin van der Sar from Fulham, while Ji-sung Park also joined during the same transfer window. Nemanja Vidic arrived just six months later in a fantastic first season of transfer business.

The Glazers have continued to consistently spend large fees on new signings in recent years, with over €100m spent in four of the past five seasons.

Their biggest spending season came in 2022-23, however. Man Utd spent a whopping €238m on new signings, as Antony, Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez all joined the club.
