Man Utd make shock enquiry for Corentin Tolisso
Manchester United have made contact with the camp of Lyon veteran Corentino Tolisso to explore the feasibility of a transfer, according to French media.
The Red Devils are lagging behind expectations with their summer business so far, having only managed to sign Matheus Cunha and Enzo Kana-Biyik, while Diego Leon has arrived after an agreement was struck in the winter.
FootballTransfers understands that a breakthrough has been made in talks with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo, but there are plenty more issues Man Utd need to solve before they can be considered ready for Ruben Amorim's first full season in charge.
The problem is that the Old Trafford club are operating on a limited budget. With €150 million spent on just Cunha and Mbeumo, Man Utd need to raise funds or target cut-price deals - or both.
As a result, the club are exploring some wildcard options, and according to L'Equipe, Lyon midfielder Corentin Tolisso may be just such a left-field shout.
Man Utd make Tolisso enquiry
The French outlet reports that Man Utd have made contact with the camp of the 30-year-old to gauge the feasibility of a potential transfer. Signing Tolisso would go against INEOS' new youth-focused transfer policy, but it may be a shrewd move to replace Christian Eriksen.
It is claimed that Tolisso was not considering a move away from boyhood club Lyon heading into the summer, but a move to a huge club like Man Utd would hold appeal.
Similarly, Lyon are not really looking to sell the former Bayern Munich star, but a significant financial windfall would be welcome given that they have only just about managed to stave off their forced relegation to Ligue 2.
For now, Man Utd have only made an initial enquiry into Tolisso's availability, but he could yet become one to watch this summer. Atletico Madrid and promoted Saudi side NEOM SC, who just signed ex-Lyon captain Alexandre Lacazette, are also credited with an interest.
