The spotlight was on Manchester United loanee Amad Diallo during the EFL Championship semi-final, but the youngster disappointed.

Sunderland were heading into the second leg of their crucial playoff tie with Luton with a 2-1 advantage, yet their season ultimately came to a premature end at this hurdle. The home side won 2-0 and shattered the Black Cats' dreams of finally returning to the Premier League after their double relegation.

One player being watched extra closely was Manchester United loanee Amad Diallo, who tore up the Championship during the regular season. The 20-year-old hit a very impressive 13 goals in 37 appearances and he also scored in the first leg against Luton.

Red Devils coach Erik ten Hag has previously praised the youngster, taken stock of his progress and explained that it was the right decision to send him out on loan.

The return fixture against the Hatters, however, proved to be a different beast, and Amad, like his teammates, faltered on the big stage, leaving some United fans who chose to watch the Championship over the Champions League disappointed.
