The Manchester United takeover saga is nearing its conclusion, but Sheikh Jassim could be back in the running now as he has just submitted a final take-it-or-leave-it offer.

Uncertainty over the takeover has been looming over United for months. The final bidder was supposed to have been chosen last week, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS understood to be the favourites. Their offer matched the valuation of the current owners, the Glazers, and they even proposed to keep them on board with a combined 20 per cent stake in the club.

Sheikh Jassim's initial 'final' offer was deemed unsatisfactory as the Qatari's bid clocked in below the sum wanted by the American owners in addition to his desire to attain full, 100 per cent control of the club. Nevertheless, there were already murmurs that he wouldn't give up easily and these murmurs have now proved justified.

A 'seismic development'

In what the Daily Mail has called a 'seismic development,' Sheikh Jassim has now submitted a massive, 11th-hour bid in an effort to make the Glazers reconsider. The sum involved is believed to have significantly increased over his last offer.

Despite this, the Mail also claims that the Qataris still value United below what Ratcliffe and INEOS value the club at. What makes them confident of being able to force the Glazers into fully relinquishing control of the club, however, is the fact that their sum would be paid immediately, whereas the INEOS takeover would be a gradual process.

It will be interesting to see how this saga develops in the coming days and months and if this revised offer will indeed make the Glazers change their mind about staying on board. One thing is clear: United fans would love to see the back of their hated current owners.
