Arsenal youngster Charlie Patino drew the ire of Blackpool fans after getting sent off in the club’s crucial 2-1 loss to Swansea.

The 19-year-old had been enjoying a loan spell with the Tangerines this season, scoring twice in 24 games, but he received his marching orders during Wednesday’s game with his side already a goal down.

Patino was initially booked 39 minutes into the game before receiving his second yellow card 12 minutes into the second half, incredibly totting up Blackpool’s ninth dismissal of the season.

WANTED MAN: Arsenal fight off Barcelona interest in Patino

Although Blackpool equalised 13 minutes later, they were level for just three minutes before conceding an own-goal, leaving Mick McCarthy’s side rooted to the bottom of the Championship and without a league win since October.

With Blackpool four points off safety and struggling to secure points, Patino’s sending-off did the team no favours and left them facing the prospect of League One football next season.

’Send him back right now’ – Blackpool fans fume over Patino

Although Patino had previously been a fan favourite at Bloomfield Road, his red card at a crucial point for Blackpool left supporters fuming on social media.

There were calls for Patino to have his loan terminated and sent back to Arsenal, with one fan describing Patino as ‘absolutely embarrassing’.

Another tweeted that they never wanted to see the England under-20 international in a Blackpool shirt again, with one fan claiming Patino was ‘too inexperienced and too weak’.

However, many fans were also sympathetic towards Patino, refusing to blame the Arsenal youngster for their problems and insisting the dismissal would be a learning point.

Patino is considered one of Arsenal’s brightest prospects and had drawn comparisons to Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong due to his ability on the ball and eye for a pass.
