Who is Calvin Ramsay? The Player of the Year wanted by Man Utd and Liverpool
Aberdeen star Calvin Ramsay has become one of Scottish football’s most highly regarded young players, with the right-back attracting attention from a myriad of clubs in the Premier League and abroad.
With Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney having impressed in the Premier League and Nathan Patterson departing Rangers for Everton in a big-money January 2022 switch, Ramsay is poised to be the next young Scottish defender to potentially make the grade in England.
Scouts have been flocking to watch him strut his stuff at Aberdeen in recent months, with most leaving with a favourable impression of what they have seen.
A transfer, then, is very much just a matter of time.
What position does Ramsay play in?
Whether playing for the Scotland national team youth sides or his hometown club, Ramsay has always been a right-sided full-back who can play as a wing-back in certain systems.

How good is Ramsay?
Aberdeen rate Ramsay as an "elite" young player.
"There are not many right back at his age like him, doing what he does," chairman Dave Cormack said.
"Look at the data and all the clubs look at the same scouting systems. He is in the elite upper bracket, right up there, for a young right-back in Europe
“People are seeing that and that is why we believe there will be a lot of interest."
Ramsay broke onto the scene in Scottish football towards the end of 2020/21, when the defender was given a handful of starts in the Scottish Premiership split and in Aberdeen’s Scottish Cup run.
That was seemingly enough for new manager Stephen Glass to promote Ramsay to the first team as a regular starter and as such the young Scot has been an ever-present member of the Dons starting XI in European qualifiers and the Premiership since.

The young full-back clearly thrives when given space to run into with and without the ball, which is shown in his healthy assist count. Whether as a full-back or a more advanced wing-back, Ramsay has more than enough in the engine to trouble most teams.
In April of 2022, he was named the Young Player of the Year in Scotland.
What clubs are interested in Ramsay?
While young talents in the Scottish game are often scooped up by Celtic or Rangers, there’s every chance that this defender could make a direct route south of the border, if recent reports are to be believed.
According to the Daily Record, Manchester United and Liverpool have been watching attentively since Ramsay broke into the Pittodrie side’s first team and have had scouts watch the player on a number of occasions.
Indeed, fuel was given to these rumours in January 2022 as Man Utd watched the youngster perform against Rangers in a 1-1 draw.
Liverpool have been linked with him in the near past, while Leicester, Leeds, Bologna and Eintracht Frankfurt have all been watching the teenager, too.
