Antonio Conte MOCKS Man Utd after Hojlund debut goal
Antonio Conte poked fun at Manchester United after new signing Rasmus Hojlund scored on his debut for Napoli.
Hojlund produced a brilliant performance for Napoli on hide maiden appearance, scoring in a 3-1 win at Fiorentina.
The Denmark striker joined Napoli from United this summer on loan for €5 million with an obligation to buy for a further €45m.
And despite struggling in his two years at United, Hojlund immediately impressed at Napoli.
What did Conte say?
After the game, Conte joked that he signed Hojlund because of the success he had with another former Man Utd player in Scott McTominay.
“Hojlund is only 22 years old, we got him from Manchester United, seeing as it brought us luck doing that with McTominay,” joked Conte.
“We knew his qualities, he has great potential and can improve. You can see he’s a lad with great prospects.”
It seems as if Hojlund could be the latest Man Utd flop to shine away from Old Trafford.
Hojlund was no longer in manager Ruben Amorim's plans for the season and had not played a minute this campaign.
Man Utd signed Hojlund in the summer of 2023 from Atalanta for €75 million plus €10m in add-ons.
The 22-year-old struggled badly, failing to score a single Premier League goal before Christmas in his first season.
Despite picking up in the second half of the campaign, he was a disaster in his second season.
Hojlund scored just four Premier League goals all season and United gave up on the striker.
Napoli decided to move for Hojlund after Romelu Lukaku suffered a long-term injury that will keep him out until close to Christmas.
AC Milan had been favourites for Hojlund but Napoli moved in to close the deal.
