Jamie Vardy robbed of dream debut goal for Cremonese
Jamie Vardy made his full debut for Cremonese on Monday and missed two glorious chances to cap an impressive performance.
Vardy completed a shock free transfer to Italian minnows Cremonese this summer.
But the 38-year-old has had a stop-start beginning to life in Italy due to injury, making only two substitute appearances before this matchday.
Vardy was finally given his full debut during the 1-1 home draw with Udinese on Monday evening.
Vardy full debut for Cremonese
Vardy played the full 90 minutes and largely impressed.
He was lively, showed good pace and movement and was a handful for the Udinese defence.
The veteran will be disappointed, though, not to have found the net.
He missed a one-on-one when he raced through on goal but was denied by Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.
And then with virtually the last kick of the game he was unlucky not to win the match when he cut inside and saw his goalbound shot deflected over by a last-gasp challenge.
All in all, it was a promising full debut for Vardy, who has been signed to help the newly-promoted Cremonese stay in Serie A.
Cremonese have started the season well, already picking up 10 points and having a seven point lead over the bottom three.
Vardy has a deal with Cremonese until June 2026 with the option of a further year if the club remain in Serie A.
The attacker had been searching for a new club after leaving Leicester at the end of last season following their relegation to the Championship.
He was linked with a host of clubs such as Brentford, West Ham United, Wrexham, Celtic and even Manchester United but he chose to join Cremonese.
Vardy already has shares in Serie A club Como.
Cremonese were promoted from Serie B and made a shock start to life in Serie A.
They stunned AC Milan 2-1 at San Siro on the opening day and have been performing well.
Now 38, Vardy has no intention of retiring after a legendary spell at Leicester.
The striker scored 200 goals during 13 years at Leicester, famously leading the team to a fairytale Premier League triumph in 2016.
He was capped 26 times by England, scoring seven goals.
