Controversy in Italy as REFEREE caught KICKING AC Milan star
Controversy has erupted in Italy after Serie A referee Marco Guida was caught on camera appearing to kick AC Milan star Alexis Saelemaekers.
The incident occurred during Milan's 1-0 win over Roma at San Siro, immediately after Mike Maignan made a crucial penalty save from Paulo Dybala.
Saelemaekers celebrated the save wildly in front of referee Guida, and the official appeared to react by kicking out at the AC Milan star.
A clip has gone viral of the incident, and you can make your mind up in the Italian Football Football Podcast's video below whether the kick was deliberate or not.
Controversy in Italy
It remains to be seen what - if any - the punishment will be for Guida for his actions.
Former Serie A referee Graziano Cesari slammed the behaviour of Guida.
"Dybala misses the penalty, Saelemaekers turns and celebrates in front of Guida. Do you know what the referee does? He walks toward him and then kicks him a little kick at the Belgian," Cesari said.
"That’s a behavior an international referee simply cannot have. I see intent in that gesture. Saelemaekers, after feeling the kick, turns around and reacts toward Guida. This is not the kind of behavior a match official should ever display."
Milan have had an excellent start to the season under new manager Max Allegri and are just one point off the top of the table.
On Sunday they beat Roma 1-0 thanks to a first half goal from Strahinja Pavlovic.
This weekend the Rossoneri play Parma away before the international break.
They then play Inter in the Milan derby after the break.
