Inter Milan supporters have handed out 50,000 whistles so Roma striker Romelu Lukaku can be targeted when the striker makes his return to San Siro on 29 October on Serie A duty.

Inter had been hopeful of retaining Lukaku in the summer after his loan deal from Chelsea expired, but relations between the club and the player shattered when it was revealed that he was holding covert transfer talks with great rivals Juventus.

Ultimately, Lukaku’s discussions with the Turin side broke down as they needed Dusan Vlahovic to depart in order to afford him.

Just as it seemed the striker may face a season in purgatory with Chelsea, Jose Mourinho’s Roma swooped to sign him on loan.

But Inter supporters are not prepared to move on from what they see as a betrayal.

The Curva Nord Ultras stated: “October 29 is a date we should circle in the calendar so we can be ready to let him hear all our disgust that we feel towards someone who turned his back on us in the most shameful way.

“A character who proved himself to be a small man because before being a champion, you must be a man and know how to keep your word.

“We defended you with swords drawn and you repaid us by turning your back. Before the game against Roma, the Curva Nord will hand out 50,000 whistles to be used at every touch of the ball from he who betrayed our jersey. Let us all show how someone who proved himself unworthy to wear this shirt ought to be treated.”

How is Lukaku doing at Roma?

Lukaku has started life at Roma strongly, scoring four goals in his first six appearances with the club, which includes only five starts.

It has been a difficult beginning to the season for the club as a whole, with head coach Jose Mourinho threatened with the sack after an indifferent start to the season.
