Celtic agree deal to sign Chelsea striker as medical completed

Celtic are close to signing Chelsea forward Shumaira Mheuka on a season-long loan deal, with the England U19 international having successfully completed a medical today.

Mheuka signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge earlier this month and while the club have not yet officially announced this agreement, it’s expected that formal confirmation will arrive when he departs for Celtic Park on loan.

Chelsea used the same tactic to announce Jesse Derry’s contract extension and subsequent loan move to Portuguese giants Sporting CP during the early weeks of the summer window.

Mheuka scored 18 goals in 19 Premier League 2 appearances last term and he won the division’s Player of the Year award after captaining Chelsea to the regular season title.

The England youth international, who has shone alongside Max Dowman and Rio Ngumoha at U19 level, is regarded as one of Chelsea’s most promising youth products and the Blues have been working on a suitable loan deal throughout the entire summer window.

A deal has now been agreed with Celtic and he will formally join the club before the Scottish transfer window closes on Thursday. Mheuka has already completed his medical, as per Fabrizio Romano, and the move has also been confirmed by The Daily Mail’s Chelsea correspondent Kieran Gill and Sky Sports Scotland reporter Anthony Joseph.

Celtic have been heavily linked with fellow Chelsea academy starlet Landon Emenalo too, and reports indicate that a loan deal was agreed earlier this month. However, the transfer is in doubt due to an injury issue and it remains to be seen if he will follow Mheuka to the Glasgow giants.

Who else will leave Chelsea on Deadline Day?

In addition to finalising Mheuka’s loan move to Celtic, Chelsea are also expected to complete the sale of Tosin Adarabioyo to Tottenham Hotspur and Mykhailo Mudryk’s loan move to the north London side.

Robert Sanchez is joining Como on a temporary deal and Jamie Gittens could be set to complete a move to AS Roma. Meanwhile, talks with Manchester City over the possible sale of Enzo Fernandez are ongoing.

In regards to incomings, Chelsea are keen to sign either Lamine Camara (AS Monaco) or Manu Kone (AS Roma) as a replacement for Fernandez if the Argentina midfielder secures an Etihad Stadium switch before the window slams shut at 23:00 BST.
