Rangers target breaks silence over collapsed move - ‘It's in the back of my mind'

Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl admits he is finding it difficult to move on from his collapsed move to Rangers this summer.

Daily Record claims Rangers withdrew their interest in Hjerto-Dahl after learning of his €10million (£8.5m) valuation by Norwegian side Tromso.

The same publication understands the Scottish giants had previously made a €6m (£5.3m) offer for the 20-year-old, which was rejected.

And now Hjerto-Dahl has conceded the transfer speculation weighs heavily on his mind, saying it is “not always easy” to deal with.

In quotes carried by Record Sport, he said: “I’m aware of it [transfer interest], and there have been two or three occasions where I’ve had to make a decision about things.

“It’s in the back of my mind. It’s not always easy, but it’s fine during training and matches. It’s more of an issue when I’m at home in the evenings.”

Hjerto-Dahl was speaking after Tromso were eliminated from the UEFA Europa League following a 4-1 aggregate qualifying loss to Czech side FC Hradec Kralove on Thursday.

The powerful midfielder is regarded as one of Norway’s top prospects, having scored seven goals in 15 games so far in 2026.

Hjerto-Dahl has since been linked with a move to Premier League new boys Hull City - something he has welcomed.

Asked about a possible switch to Hull, he added: “It’s great. The biggest league in the world (the Premier League), and the one most people watch. Hull is a cool team.

“If I do leave, it certainly won't be the last time people see me at the stadium [in Tromso]. I was born and raised in this club and city.”

New-look Rangers preparing for Scottish Premiership opener

Rangers meanwhile are preparing to open up their Scottish Premiership campaign with a trip to Dundee United this evening (Friday, 31 July).

The Gers have been busy in the summer transfer window, making eight new additions to Derek McInnes’ squad.

Goalkeeper Ivor Pandur, defenders Ross McCrorie and Olwethu Makhanya, midfielders Vanja Dragojevic, Dan Neil and Cammy Devlin and striker Lawrence Shankland have all arrived on permanent deals.

Defender Ben Godfrey has also joined on a season-long loan from Serie A outfit Atalanta.
