PSG plot shock raid for 'best in the Premier League' after injury crisis
Paris Saint-Germain could turn to a shock transfer target as a mid-season replacement for the injured Achraf Hakimi, with one of the Premier League’s surprise stars in line for a big move.
Hakimi left the field in tears after suffering an ankle injury during PSG’s 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League this week following a horror tackle from Luis Diaz that saw the winger sent off.
The injury is set to keep Hakimi sidelined for at least six weeks and will see him face a race against time to be fit for Morrocco’s AFCON campaign, which begins on December 21.
Should Hakimi make the tournament, he will not return for PSG until late January if Morocco reach the latter stages, leading to suggestions that the Ligue 1 side could look for an alternative right-back in the winter transfer window.
And, according to fichajes, PSG have been alerted to the performances of Daniel Munoz, who was labelled as the best wing-back in the Premier League this season by Jamie Carragher after starring for Crystal Palace.
In particular, Munoz’s attacking prowess and defensive consistency has made him an affordable short-term target for PSG, although Barcelona are also rumoured to be interested in a deal for the 29-year-old.
Palace could face fight to keep hold of elite performer Munoz
In the last two Premier League seasons, no defender has had more goal contributions, created more chances or won possession more in the final third than Munoz, highlighting his impressive credentials since joining Palace for €8 million in January 2024.
Munoz still has more than two years remaining on his contract, with Palace also retaining an option for a further season, although the Colombian international would certainly be tempted by a move to one of Europe’s elite sides at this stage in his career.
There have been no indications of a rumoured asking price for Munoz but SciSports, who use data-driven analytics to assess a player, value the defender at around €32m.
However, having seen manager Oliver Glasner threaten to quit if Palace sold captain Marc Guehi during the summer, the Eagles may be resistant to increase any tension by cashing in on another star performer mid-season.
