Paris Saint-Germain director Luis Campos could be sacked by the French side after the fallout surrounding Kylian Mbappe’s future at the club.

Campos has been advising PSG since last summer and oversaw a spending spree of more than €150 million during his first transfer window, however his business caused tension between Mbappe and the club.

The French captain felt that PSG had broken a number of promises made to him, such as failing to bring in a striker in the transfer window, and that is partially why Mbappe opted against taking up the option to renew his contract until 2025.

REVEALED: Kylian Mbappe's role in Ousmane Dembele transfer to PSG

With Mbappe set to depart on a free transfer at the end of the season, the blame has been laid at the feet of Campos by PSG’s Qatari owners, according to Le Parisien, who suggest that the Portuguese advisor could lose his job by September.

Campos has also been criticised for his ‘proximity’ to Jorge Mendes, with a number of PSG’s signings having been clients of the Portuguese super agent.

PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Campos have also endured a strained relationship this summer, with both not seeing eye-to-eye on Mbappe’s presence on the club’s pre-season tour as well as the pursuit of Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele.

Where did Luis Campos go wrong at PSG?

Campos’ signings last summer have come under scrutiny from the PSG board, with only Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz offering ‘partial satisfaction’, while the arrivals of Carlos Soler, Hugo Ekitike and Renato Sanches have reflected poorly on the director.

Le Parisien state that Campos’ future was sealed in June when Mbappe announced he would decline the option in his contract, enraging Al-Khelaifi and laying the blame on the ex-Monaco executive.

PSG have attempted to sell Mbappe this summer, insisting he must be sold despite the protests of Campos and manager Luis Enrique, who only agreed to remove him from the club’s tour of Japan on the orders of the Qatari owners.

PAIN: 'Hurt' Mbappe determined to make PSG pay

Campos has also been reluctant to sanction a move for Dembele, while the pursuit of Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos – another Mendes client – is thought to be against the wishes of PSG’s board, who would prefer Harry Kane or Randal Kolo Muani.

With PSG having lost Lionel Messi this summer, world record signing Mbappe set to leave on a free and Neymar considered unwanted, the French side’s ‘big 3’ era looks set to collapse in flames, with Campos being used as the fuel.
