PSG consider reporting Real Madrid to FIFA over Mbappe transfer saga

Paris Saint-Germain are considering making a formal complaint about Real Madrid to FIFA over fears that Kylian Mbappe has an illegal agreement to join the Spanish side next summer.

Mbappe is in the final year of his contract with PSG after rejecting the option to extend his deal with the Ligue 1 side for another year, prompting the club’s Qatari owners to demand the 24-year-old be sold this summer.

However Mbappe, who rejected talks with Al-Hilal despite PSG accepting a €300 million bid from the Saudi side, has insisted he will see out his contract in Paris and refuse any transfer offers submitted to him.

This stance has prompted PSG to believe that Mbappe already has an agreement to join Real next summer on a free transfer in a deal that could net the French captain a €160m signing on fee.

Such an agreement would be illegal under FIFA rules, with teams requiring the permission of a club before approaching a player with more than six months left on their contract.

PSG have been desperate to sell Mbappe before the end of July as they would be required to pay the forward half of his €80m loyalty bonus for the year, with the player also needing to activate the option to extend for a further season by the same date – something which he has already confirmed he will not be doing.

What is the situation surrounding Mbappe’s future?

Along with the bid from Saudi Arabia, PSG have had interest from Chelsea, who have played down reports over a player-plus-cash deal for Mbappe, as well as from Tottenham and Barcelona, who have made similar proposals as well as loan offers.

Real are also thought to be open to paying to sign Mbappe this summer in order to secure his services and avoid any potential repeat of last year, where the World Cup winner reneged on an agreement to extend his stay with PSG.

However, Real are battling financial fair play restrictions and would prefer waiting to sign Mbappe for free next year, although a likely resolution would be the Spanish side eventually agreeing a cut price fee this summer.
