Kylian Mbappe continues to make football transfer news headlines thanks to his battle with PSG.

The France international star is refusing to take up an option in his contract to extend his deal until 2025, with the club, therefore, threatening to sell him this summer to avoid seeing him depart as a free agent.

Mbappe’s stance has caused ripples throughout the game, but particularly with Real Madrid, who are the hot favourites to sign him if his contract expires. Indeed, there are reports that Los Blancos have drafted up a mammoth contract offer worth over €800 million.

There had been reports that members of the PSG squad were unhappy with the manner in which the superstar was conducting himself, and so all eyes were all on his return to pre-season training on Monday.

According to RMC, he was welcomed back at PSG with open arms – at least among his teammates.

Renowned journalist Fabrice Hawkins explained: “You know that he’s caused a lot of talk. When we talk about Kylian Mbappe, there are a lot of things said, some very true, others a little less true.

“In any case, the relationship between Kylian and his colleagues is, in all honesty, in very good shape.

“After that, we know he’s a guy who controls his emotions well and does not show much. There was no sense that he was frustrated, even if the TV images that we saw today saw him deep in discussion with his good friend Achraf Hakimi.”

Will Mbappe sign for Real Madrid?

Mbappe has said that he wants to play the 2023/24 season with PSG and does not have any intention to leave the club, but while it is not a surprise that he has returned to the squad in good shape, there had been doubts over how his teammates might welcome him with rumours of a Real Madrid transfer still hot. These have been allayed for the moment.

Now PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is expected to hold talks with Mbappe in the days ahead to try and get a better idea of what his future holds.
