Real Madrid take strong stance over Vinicius Junior contract with Perez set to intervene
Vinicius Junior could be edging towards an exit from Real Madrid this summer, with talks over a new contract still at a stalemate over the player’s salary and financial demands.
The Brazilian star has entered the final year of his contract and Madrid are desperate to reach a quick solution following Vini’s return from the 2026 World Cup.
Talks have been ongoing for a number of months and, while all parties are keen on a renewal, Spanish reporter Abraham Romero has claimed that Madrid are ‘standing firm’ on their proposal.
“My information is that Real Madrid are standing firm on the position they held before the World Cup,” Romero told Ramon Alvarez de Mon. “Prior to the tournament, Madrid's offer stood at €20 million net per season, whereas Vinícius was earning around €17m.
“On the other hand, Vinícius wants—or wanted at the time—a figure closer to €30 million. That is essentially what is on the table and what has been there for the last few months. The problem is that, in my view, the player has backed himself into a corner that is difficult to resolve right now.
“Since Vinícius wants to stay at Madrid and currently doesn't have other offers on the table that match the stature of Real Madrid, I believe he is in a position where he either accepts Madrid's offer or the club will have to contemplate selling him this summer—and the player does not want to leave Real Madrid. He truly does not want to leave."
Vinicius Junior set for showdown talks with Florentino Perez over Real Madrid contract
Real Madrid are thought to be open to Vinicius’ sale in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer, although Romero believes a face-to-face meeting between the 25-year-old and Florentino Perez could see an agreement reached due to the club’s offer being the best available to the player.
“I believe a face-to-face meeting is pending between Florentino Pérez and Vinícius once he returns from his holidays,” Romero said. “This is highly significant: president and player meeting directly. This is necessary because the respective negotiating teams have reached a point where there is no further room for understanding.
“My expectation is that at this meeting, Florentino will present him with the same offer that has been on the table up until now. Vinícius might say, 'Look, President, I want this and that,' and I think they might find some common ground, perhaps with a minimal renewal bonus.
“I think Real Madrid will stick to their original terms, and my gut feeling is that the player will ultimately renew with Madrid.
“Vinícius has tested his market value and discovered it is high, but of the actual offers he has on the table right now, none match the overall sporting and financial scale of Real Madrid's proposal.”
