Vinicius Jr vs Xabi Alonso fight: Fabrizio Romano reveals what happens next
Fabrizio Romano says that Real Madrid will not intervene as Xabi Alonso and Vini Jr sit down to talk following their Clasico bust-up.
Vini Jr caused big controversy during Madrid's 2-1 win over Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday after reacting angrily to being substituted on 72 minutes.
The Brazilian had produced a fine match against Barcelona. He was a key offensive catalyst for the team and this, no doubt, played a role in him publicly showing his frustration as he was replaced.
“Always me,” he fumed as he trudged off after appealing to Xabi Alonso, according to The Athletic. “I’m leaving the team, it’s better if I leave, I’m leaving.”
After a spell in the dressing room, he came back out to the bench, where the coach had uttered, “Come on, Vini, damn it…” when the player was in the midst of his strop.
What Romano said about Vini Jr vs Xabi Alonso argument
Romano says on his YouTube channel that Real Madrid will not intervene following these events.
Vini Jr will not be fined or sanctioned by the club as Madrid are leaving it up to Alonso to deal with the fallout.
Romano says that Alonso and Vini Jr will sit down face to face when the squad returns from their post-Clasico break afforded to them by their coach.
Alonso has the full support and backing of Madrid in what he decides to do but it is believed that the manager will not look to inflame the situation.
It’s not the first time this season that Alonso and Vini Jr have clashed.
Alonso had planned to drop Vini Jr for the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final against PSG that ended in a 4-0 defeat.
Had it not been for an injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold in the warm-up, the South American would not have started that game. When ultimately deployed, he was unhappy about playing as a right winger.
And his latest outburst reflects Alonso’s willingness to take Vini off during games. He has played a full 90 only three times this season.
All this comes amidst a tense situation between Vini Jr and Real Madrid over his contractual future at the club.
Vini Jr's contract at Madrid expires in 2027 and the parties are still far away from agreeing a new deal amidst strong interest from Saudi Arabia.
The Brazilian is said to be demanding the same salary as Kylian Mbappe.
