Rodrygo 'instructs' agents to find NEW club
Real Madrid winger Rodrygo reportedly “instructed” his agents to explore the possibility of leaving the club this summer.
The Brazil international has only started two of Xabi Alonso’s eight competitive matches in charge and he has been an unused substitute in four of those games.
Rodrygo was handed a surprise start versus Real Oviedo on Sunday, after failing to feature against Osasuna in Real Madrid’s opening fixture of the new La Liga season, and Alonso was eager to praise the 24-year-old for his performance.
After the match, the Real Madrid boss told reporters: “He [Rodrygo] had a good game. In the first half, on that side, he linked up well with [Alvaro] Carreras, [Kylian] Mbappe sometimes dropped, and so did [Arda] Guler.
“He had one-on-one situations and a few shots. Oviedo were quite deep and it was difficult to find the space, but I liked it. After last week, we needed everyone, and Rodrygo is one of them.”
However, Rodrygo was visibly frustrated at his substitution in the 63rd minute and he was spotted throwing a training top onto the floor while in conversation with Eder Miltao.
The Athletic have now revealed that Rodrygo “instructed” Pini Zahavi and Kia Joorabchian, his agents, to look for a new destination this summer, despite the fact his representatives have insisted that he remains happy at Real Madrid.
Who could Rodrygo join?
If Rodrygo is to leave Real Madrid this summer, reports suggest that he is likely to secure a move to an elite club in the Premier League.
Arsenal are long-term admirers of the Brazil international and have continuously been linked with a move throughout the transfer window, while Liverpool are possible suitors too, following the sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich.
However, the former have now announced the signing of Crystal Palace superstar Eberechi Eze, which may impact their interest in Rodrygo, and the latter remain focused on finalising a deal for wantaway Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
As a result, Manchester City currently appear to be the frontrunners for Rodrygo. Pep Guardiola’s side are still in the market for another attacker and they have earmarked the Real Madrid winger as their top target to replace Savinho if Tottenham Hotspur are successful in their pursuit of Brazilian’s signature.
