Nico Williams ignores mum’s advice on €220,000 buy as Barcelona target sets season goal
Nico Williams continues to catch headlines, even after a summer transfer window that saw him spurn the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea to remain at Athletic Club.
The 22-year-old shone as Spain won Euro 2024 but was not interested in departing the Bilbao side, despite having a tempting release clause in his deal worth just €58 million.
Even with the window shut, transfer rumours surrounding Nico Williams continue, despite the attacker apparently fully focused on his task with Athletic.

This was evident at the weekend as the Basque side went to Las Palmas and secured a 3-2 victory in a thrilling game.
Nico grabbed his first goal of the season, assisted by brother Inaki, and then laid out his plans for the season ahead – not mentioning the prospect of a transfer to Barcelona or anywhere else.
“I am very demanding of myself,” he said. “I want to help my team as much as possible, whether with goals or assists. I would like to score more than 10 goals in LaLiga - I don't know if I can do it!”

Nico Williams’ best season to date in terms of goals was the 2022/23 campaign, in which he struck six in LaLiga and nine overall. If he were to hit double figures and add a genuine cutting edge to his game, it would elevate his status only further and escalate transfer rumours.
Barcelona sporting director Deco has tried to play down the possibility of a transfer.
“Nico is an Athletic Club player and we at Barcelona are not going to comment on anything,” he said.
Nico Williams shows off flash new car
Nico Williams seems to be revelling in his new star status and splashed out more than €220,000 on a new Porsche 911 GT3, which he has been seen driving to training in.
Speaking to El Mundo (via El Motor), he revealed that his mother told him not to buy it when he was 18.
“She said no, so I didn’t buy it,” he revealed. “Maybe it was too much for an 18-year-old.”
It appears, however, that he now comfortable with having made the purchase.
He previously drove a Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S, which was worth a little over €85,000.
