Real Madrid could bring Miguel Gutierrez back to the club should they fail to land Alphonso Davies, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Los Blancos are keen to add a left-back to their team. Despite re-signing Fran Garcia from Rayo Vallecano last summer and Carlo Ancelotti hailing Ferland Mendy as the "best defensive full-back in the world," there is a marked difference in quality in the left-back position compared to the rest of the star-studded team.

The Spanish giants have been linked with a summer move for Alphonso Davies for months. The Bayern star, arguably the best left-back in the world right now, will be available for around €50 million should the Bundesliga side fail to get him to extend his contract beyond 2025. Though Real Madrid are reportedly the Canadian's preference, signing him won't be a walk in the park.

Recently, news broke that Liverpool have also registered an interest in the 23-year-old, while Man City have also always been in the mix for him. Los Blancos are correctly considered the favourites to sign him, but you can't count out the financial muscle of the Premier League's elite.

Real's contingency plan

Should Real fail to land Davies, they could bring Miguel Gutierrez back to the club. The 22-year-old was sold to Girona for €4m in 2022 and can be brought back to the club for double that money in the summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

"Today, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that they appreciate how Miguel Gutierrez - left-back at Girona - is growing and developing," Romano said on his YouTube channel. "The player is a Girona player, he joined Girona on a permanent transfer from Real Madrid, but Real Madrid have 50 per cent [of his] rights, so a 50 per cent sell-on clause on the player and also three [different] clauses."

"One clause is for the summer 2024, so this summer, and it's €8m to bring Miguel Gutierrez back to the club. Next summer, it's €9m - 2025. And then, in 2026, it's €10m. This is the agreement. Real Madrid, Ancelotti said, will decide in the summer, but there are three clauses and the player is waiting and hoping for Real Madrid."
