Real Madrid have achieved a breakthrough in their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe, according to a report.

The French megastar is inching closer to leaving PSG after once again running down his contract. Unlike two years ago, when Mbappe already found himself in a similar situation, Real Madrid are fully convinced that they will really pull off this seismic deal now.

Fabrizio Romano recently had this to say on the matter: "This time, the feeling is positive and this time Real Madrid and people close to Florentino Perez feel that Kylian Mbappe is really prepared to take this step and join Real Madrid...The feeling they have at the club is that this time, it's really, really close."

Well, now it seems the first major hurdle towards striking a deal has been cleared. That's at least according to journalist Rudy Galetti, who claims that Los Blancos have "now agreed a deal in principle both on image rights and also with regards to salary" with the 25-year-old.

Mbappe on his way to Madrid?

Galetti, echoing what Romano and various media outlets have already reported, asserts that the Frenchman will not make anywhere close to as much money as he is currently earning at PSG once he completes his switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Nevertheless, the transfer will still be mind-bogglingly expensive for Real Madrid, with a recent report stating that Mbappe is due to receive a world-record signing-on fee. Galetti claims that Los Blancos are keen to get this transfer over the line as soon as possible as they are also already in talks with Alphonso Davies over a summer move.

The Spanish giants, however, have not yet received the final green light from Mbappe as negotiations with PSG over a new deal remain ongoing. The perennial Ligue 1 champions still retain faint hope of being able to convince the attacker to commit his long-term future to the club.
