Mbappe wants Modric's shirt number at Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe wants to inherit Luka Modric's No.10 jersey at Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain.

Mbappe is already making plans for his transfer to Real Madrid, as revealed by his intentions around his shirt number and potential sponsorship with adidas.

The Paris Saint-Germain striker recently cause a storm in the French capital when he informed club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he didn't want to extend his contract this summer, preferring instead to 'focus on [his] football' in the 2023/24 season.

A quick scratch below the surface reveals that Mbappe stands to gain up to €270 million if he waits to join Madrid, due to this season's PSG salary, (ironically) a loyalty bonus and a signing on fee from Real in lieu of them having to pay for his transfer.

And now there is another cleat sign that he plans to move to the Santiago Bernabeu next summer instead of this, with Modric having already extended his own contract by a year.

"Mbappe wants the Real Madrid No.10, a number historically reserved for the star player," report El Nacional. "If Mbappe signed this summer he would have to inherit Karim Benzema's No.9 and swap to the 10 next summer.

"It's not only Mbappe that wants the No.10 but also adidas, Real Madrid's kit manufacturer, considering the number more iconic paired with Mbappe. Keeping the player's PSG No.7 was discussed, but it is still closely linked to Cristiano Ronaldo."

It is understood that Brazilian Endrick will inherit the No.9 jersey when he completes his €72m transfer from Palmeiras in the summer of 2024, once he turns 18.

Mbappe returned to PSG training on Monday and had to face Al-Khelaifi on Tuesday for the first time since the letter of his intent. He has been given until the end of the month to sign until at least 2025, or he will be sold in August.
