Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique are among the names who have been linked with the post, yet it is Real Madrid’s Ancelotti who has now emerged as the outstanding favourite to take the role.

Into the final 18 months of his Real Madrid contract, with Los Blancos have apparently surrendered La Liga to Barcelona following a 2-1 defeat at Camp Nou on Sunday, Ancelotti looks increasingly likely to depart the club in the summer.

And now 63, an international job could be attractive to him.

Now Ederson has stoked suggestions that Ancelotti will claim the Brazil job in the coming months.

“I spoke to Casemiro, Vinicius and Eder Militoo… there's a big possibility that Carlo Ancelotti is going to become the new coach of Brazil,” Ederson told the media, referring to three Brazil stars who have been closely linked with Ancelotti at Real Madrid.

He then went on to joke that it gives him an extra incentive to lead Manchester City into the semi-finals of the Champions League

“We will try to eliminate Real Madrid so that Ancelotti can come to Brazil as quick as possible!” he smiled.

Has Ancelotti managed an international team before?

Ancelotti has a long history as a coach following his retirement from playing in 1992. Indeed, he actually started his coaching life as an assistant at Italy before moving into the club game in 1995 with Reggiana.

He has since gone on to coach a string of leading clubs, including Juventus, Milan, Chelsea, PSG, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

If he were to go to Brazil, it would be his first international head coach job.
