Barcelona plan to sell as many as four big-name stars in January, according to Sport.

The Blaugrana were one of the most active teams in the summer transfer market, spending more money than any team in Europe outside of the Premier League.

Barcelona spent heavily on the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde and Raphinha, while also bringing in Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen, Hector Bellerin and Marcos Alonso.

They also offloaded a number of players, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Miralem Pjanic, Coutinho, Martin Braithwaite, Dani Alves and Adama Traore.

And Barcelona plan to sell even more players in January, according to Sport, due to their precarious financial situation.

Barca’s wage bill is still far too high, while they need to offset and start to make back some of the €157 million spent on new players this summer.

Who will Barcelona sell in January?

Barcelona tried desperately all summer to sell Frenkie de Jong, having been in negotiations with Manchester United and then Chelsea.

However, De Jong refused to leave Camp Nou. Barcelona will resume efforts in January to sell the Dutch central midfielder. Man Utd still want to buy him, despite the purchase of Real Madrid legend Casemiro.

Barca also are keen to sell Jordi Alba. The 33-year-old is now surplus to requirements having fallen behind both Alejandro Balde and Marcos Alonso in the left-back pecking order. They had tried to move him on to Inter in the final days of the summer market.

Gerard Pique – like both De Jong and Alba – is on massive wages and Barcelona would like to have him off their books.

Finally, Memphis Depay is only a bit-part player at Camp Nou. Barcelona had been in talks to release him on a free transfer in August and his contract expires at the end of the season. A January sale or rescission remains possible.
